Community Projects

Workshops are designed to suit groups of all ages and abilities. Choose from a range of different artforms and approaches to create the best project for your group. Workshops can cover just a single session or be run as a longer term project. Rachel is happy to discuss your project needs.


Fun 4 Kids
Rachel was the lead artist at the Fun 4 Kids project that ran regular events in Poole, especially in the less fortunate areas for 5 years. From mosaics, to carving to printmaking, anyone was able to participate and take home something that they had made.

Easter Arts Week
Rachel won a commission to present a week-long activity of arts workshops in Poole Town Centre at Easter. Over 6 days, the 12 workshops provided the public with a lots of fun for the whole family making Willow Flags and Butterflies, Wool Hangings, Mini Me Paintings, "Green" Notebooks and many more.

Wildlife Carving Totem Pole
A drop-by totem pole carving workshop at Poor Common for local residents. This was part of a Wildlife Event put on by the Play Rangers.

RELAYS Mural
RELAYS in conjunction with The Citizens Advice Bureau provided a day of entertainment at Boscombe Pier. This event took place on the beach providing passersby the chance to participate in making a mural with a sea scene.

Hazel Sailboat Workshop
A community Fun Day event at Baiter Park, Poole for local residents. Particpants of all ages made boats from cut hazel rods that they could test out in the paddling pool.

Bugs and Birds Workshop
This recycling workshop was put on by Sky and Global Action Plan and it was run at Chiswick Community School. Participants from Sky and Global Action Plan joined forces with a group of students to make some wonderful giant bugs and birds. 6 teams made all the sculpture out of recycled materials from Sky.

Portuguese Paving Project
Vauxhall City Farm, Vauxhall, London. Mosaic workshops with the Portugese community, themed on Portuguese mosaic designs, to make a 20 metre pathway leading to conservation garden at Vauxhall City Farm. These mosaic workshops included schools, community groups and local residents.

Artist in Residence, Wendell Park School
Sculpture project with year 4, exploring a variety of sculpture techniques to the theme of wetland birds. Further commissioned to carve a bird bench for the school playground.

Send wood carving workshop  

HMP Send
A series of Wood Carving Workshops for prisoners at HMP Send in Guilford (Koestler Trust). Eight large oak posts as well as smaller pieces were carved as nature markers for the new prison garden in conjunction with other workshops designed to provide prisonersa quiet space.

Sure Start Community Mosaic Project
A series of workshops aimed at Sure Start mothers in the Bournmouth centre. Participants helped design, make and install new mosaic to brighten up the surrounds of water fountain in playground.
